Shares

Global shares, longer hours as CFDs

Share CFDs follow the price of a listed company. You can take a long or short view without buying the share in a custody account. Hours follow the home exchange, and some names offer extended CFD hours. Corporate actions can adjust the contract.

01 — Shares

A view on the company

Earnings, guidance and sector news move the share. The CFD tracks that price, it does not give you a vote or a dividend cheque.

Dividends and splits

When the underlying share goes ex-dividend or splits, the CFD is adjusted so the economic result stays fair.

Session risk

Outside the main session, spreads are often wider and a news headline can gap the open.

A single company can fall harder than an index. Size a share as one name, not as the whole market.

How a share CFD differs from owning stock

You are trading the price difference. That changes what you receive and what you risk.

  • No share certificate and no shareholder vote.
  • Dividend adjustments are cash on the CFD, not shares.
  • You can sell short if the symbol allows it.
  • Losses can exceed a small margin deposit when the move is large.

A practical checklist

Company names look alike. Confirm the ticker and the venue before you send the order.

  • Match the symbol to the company you mean.
  • Note the session clock on the ticket.
  • Read the margin for the size you typed.
  • Watch earnings dates. Gaps are common that morning.

FAQ

Do I own the shares?

No. A share CFD is a contract on the price. Ownership, voting and brokerage custody stay outside this ticket.

Why did my position change overnight?

Financing on a held CFD, or a corporate-action adjustment, can change the cash on the position even when the price looks unchanged.

Can I trade any company?

Only symbols listed on the desk. If a search returns nothing, that name is not offered.
